DragonSword Dana: Chako, Freeze and the Summon Gap

Game version checked: 1.0.10 (19 August 2026 patch). Compiled from pages already on this site; nothing here is a new claim about her kit.

Dana is the one hero on this roster who is both well documented and structurally stranded. Her kit has a name, a summon, an ailment and a tested team slot — and the archetype that kit obviously belongs to has no lineup behind it anywhere on this site.

Summons are part of a hero's kit rather than a separate system — Dana's ice golem Chako is the most cited example. Official screenshot — DragonSword: Awakening, Hound13 Inc.

What the roster actually records

Our roster page gives her a self-built magitech gun and Chako, an ice golem she summons, and records Freeze as her applied ailment. On the ailment coverage page that puts her on the Freeze / Ice row with exactly one other hero, Othello, who is filed there under the separate label "Ice." Two appliers for one collapsed row, and the collapse itself is a conservative reading rather than a verified equivalence.

That matters for her more than for most heroes, because Freeze is one of the six ailments the coverage page flags as hanging on a single applier per label. If a Signal on your team arms off Freeze specifically, Dana is the hero who arms it. There is no backup.

The Summon archetype she should anchor, and does not

Our combat guide names six team archetypes players discuss, and Summon is one of them. Our team archetypes comparison then tries to staff all six from sourced material and fails on two — Summon and Defensive Control — marking both unverified as a lineup.

That page is blunt about why Dana is not simply slotted in: she summons Chako and Sion places a field Relic, so the two of them are the heroes whose kits most resemble a Summon identity, but no source describes either as anchoring a dedicated Summon team the way Kalsion is framed for Burn. The comparison page refuses to guess, and this page will not overturn that. Unconfirmed: Dana's summon is documented; a Summon team built around it is not.

If you came here intending to build around Chako, that gap is the honest answer — not a reason it will not work, but a warning that nobody this site has read has written down how.

Where she is actually documented playing

In the lineup this site does document as tested, she is one of two ranged heroes. Our best team comps guide puts Cerese / Othello / Dana forward as the safest team for learning an unfamiliar boss: the two ranged heroes keep more of the arena visible, Othello pivots in for the dangerous close-range transition, and the opener is whichever of Cerese or Dana has the better position and the stronger current build.

The same page describes her, with Cerese, as a fast Frost applicator feeding Othello's detonation windows. That is the clearest functional statement about her on this site: she is the front half of a two-part combo, not the payoff.

It also names the condition under which she is dropped. The Cerese / Othello / Reina variant exists specifically for players whose Dana is missing or underbuilt, and the guide is explicit that Reina is not an identical replacement — the team loses ranged continuity, and entry timing starts to matter more. Read backwards, that is a description of what Dana provides: continuity.

Rankings, quests and the patch record

Our tier list splits on her — S on Pro Game Guides, A on games.gg — which is one of the narrower disagreements in a table where several heroes swing three grades. The same page names her in three separate build suggestions: as a third-slot pick alongside Roxy, as part of the balanced-support route with Sion, and as one of the low-regret early Exchange buys if you need damage flexibility.

She has one of the five Hero Quest achievements on our achievements pageOne Strawberry Flavor, as Ordered — at a 7.0% global unlock rate, the second-lowest of the five.

Two entries on our patch notes page touch her directly, and our roster page credits her with a third fix that isn't tagged with a patch number of its own:

  • 1.0.4 (30 July) listed combat and control adjustments for Dana, Roxy and Eileen among others.
  • 1.0.9 (13 August) included fixes to Dana's and Theresia's Hero Quests.
  • The roster page's "earlier fixes" list also credits her with a Summon Chako rage-consumption fix — grouped next to two items explicitly marked 1.0.4, but without its own patch number in that listing. Not confirmed which patch actually shipped it.
  • No patch through 1.0.10 records a Dana balance change to her damage or her Freeze application.

So the developer has touched her summon's resource cost and her quest, but nothing on this site shows her being tuned up or down. If you read a claim that Dana was buffed or nerfed recently, it is not coming from the patch record documented here.

What this page cannot tell you

Her gear set, her Karma, her stat priorities, her skill names, and what Chako actually does mechanically beyond consuming rage. None of that is on any page of this site. Her unlock is one Fate's Invitation, the same flat price the unlock planner applies to every Exchange hero. For the only fully sourced loadout this site carries, see the Kalsion build guide.
