DragonSword Cerese: Ranged Core and Tower Gate

Game version checked: 1.0.10 (19 August 2026 patch). This page is assembled only from what other pages on this site already document about Cerese — no new claims.

Cerese is the hero whose quest unlocks a whole game mode, and the hero this site's own records cannot agree about. Both facts are worth knowing before you spend an invitation on her, and neither is obvious from a roster row.

She is the gate on Tower of Trials

Our gear, runes and Karma guide records the Tower of Trials as unlocking in Chapter 3, after talking to Cerese and completing her quest. That makes her the only hero on the roster whose personal content stands between you and an endgame mode — three towers of thirty floors each, per the same page, and the source of the Tower shards that exchange for the Whirling Thought an Exclusive Karma recipe needs.

Read that as a scheduling fact rather than a power fact. You do not need Cerese built to open the tower; you need her quest cleared. If your Karma progression has stalled because you have no Whirling Thought, this is the door you have not opened yet.

Her actual job in a team is positional, not elemental

The one lineup this site documents as tested puts her in the opening slot. Our best team comps guide describes Cerese / Othello / Dana as the safest team for learning an unfamiliar boss, with Cerese and Dana as the two ranged heroes who keep the arena visible and Othello stepping in only for the close-range transition. The rotation starts with whichever of the two ranged heroes has the better position and the stronger current build, which means Cerese is not locked into opening — she shares that role with Dana rather than owning it.

The same page keeps her in the Dana-replacement variant too: Cerese / Othello / Reina, where she holds the ranged field role unchanged while Reina takes over part of Dana's rhythm with ground movement instead. Across both lineups her slot is the constant. That is a stronger recommendation than a tier grade, because it survives a roster change.

Build order in that comp follows from the rotation: the ranged hero who starts most encounters and stays active between Othello's entries is built first. If Cerese is the better-positioned opener on your save, she is your first investment in that team.

One more mention, softer: our bosses page records Cerese's Ice Storm being named for control against Hagen the Dark Necromancer — but explicitly as reader comments on a guide rather than the author's tested method. We are repeating the attribution along with the tip.

The ailment question this site has not settled

Here is the conflict, stated plainly rather than resolved. Our roster page lists Cerese's applied ailment as "magic." The combat guide attests nine ailments individually — Stun, Knockdown, Bleed, Burn, Shock, Freeze, Poison, Airborne, Break — and "magic" is not among them. Our ailment coverage page therefore counts Cerese among the heroes carrying no recorded ailment at all.

Both readings are live on this site and neither has a first-party source behind it, because Hound13 has never published a hero-by-ailment chart. Unconfirmed: two conflicting records stand side by side. Either "magic" is a real ailment the combat guide's list of nine is missing, or it is descriptive text about her arcane-device kit that got filed in an ailment column. We are not picking.

The practical consequence matters more than the resolution. The comps guide describes her as feeding Othello's detonation windows as a fast Frost applicator — a function, not a labelled ailment. If you are building a chain around her, read her in-game skill text for the trigger rather than trusting any column on any site, including ours.

Rankings, quest data and patches

The two rankings our tier list tracks split hard on her: S on Pro Game Guides, B on games.gg. That page also flags the spelling trap — Cerese and Seris are the same hero, so a list that appears to rank both is ranking one hero twice. Pro Game Guides names her as one of two first picks for a beginner who wants damage with built-in control.

She is one of only five heroes with a Hero Quest achievement, per our achievements page, and hers has the highest global unlock rate of the five at 15.4% — consistent with a quest most players clear because the tower sits behind it.

Two patch entries touch her, both on our patch notes page: 1.0.6 (31 July) gave her a summer costume and weapon skin alongside Astria and Reina, with no system changes, and 1.0.9 (13 August) included unenumerated Charlotte/Cerese/Roxy/Kalien bug fixes. Neither is a balance change. No patch through 1.0.10 names a Cerese tuning adjustment.

What this page cannot tell you

Her skill names, her Exclusive Karma, her gear set, her stat priorities and her Awakening effects are not documented on any page of this site. The unlock planner prices her at one Fate's Invitation like every other Exchange hero, and that is the extent of what the unlock economy can tell you about whether she is worth it. If you want a hero page on this site that does carry a full gear-and-Karma loadout, the Kalsion build guide is the only one — and that is a statement about our sourcing, not about Cerese.
