DragonSword Co

DragonSword: Awakening is listed on Steam under Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op and Online Co-op. All four are accurate — but if you are buying two copies so a friend can wander Orbis with you, stop first. There is no open-world co-op. Multiplayer is confined to specific content, with hard player caps, and Hound13 said so clearly months before launch.

What Hound13 committed to, in their own words

On 12 April 2026, in a pinned thread titled "Co-op like Dragon Nest?" — now 82 replies deep — the account Hound13 | TD wrote:

"There will be cooperative multiplayer content such as subjugation and raids. You can enjoy cooperative multiplayer not only with friends but also with random players through the Steam lobby feature."

That is the whole promise, and the shipped game matches it. Two content types, plus a lobby that accepts strangers. Nothing about the open world, nothing about the campaign — exploration, story quests and side quests remain strictly single-player, and co-op content loads as its own instance.

Two players for subjugation, three for raids

Subjugation content supports 2 players. Raids support 3. These are hard caps, not recommendations.

The sourcing here deserves a note, because it is second-hand. The figures come from a community member relaying a developer statement in that same thread on 15 April, not from a Hound13 post. They also match what the producer said in an AMA, which our beginner guide cites independently. Two separate relays of the same claim is decent corroboration, but neither is Hound13 writing it down directly, so we are labelling it rather than presenting it as official text.

The three-player raid cap lines up with the game's party structure: you field three heroes in single-player, and a raid is three players. The two-player subjugation cap is the one that surprises people.

When it unlocks

Co-op is not on the menu from a fresh save. LagoFast's guide places the unlock after the tutorial chapters, at the first main city hub — a few hours in. Single source, so hold the exact position loosely; what is certain is that a brand-new player cannot join your session on day one, and each player needs their own progression to the unlock. There is no carrying a friend past the tutorial.

Getting into a session

Three routes are confirmed:

Invite codes. Patch 1.0.4 fixed a bug where "multiplayer invite code room finding" failed — which is how we know invite codes exist and how they are meant to work.

The Steam lobby. From the April statement above, the lobby is the route to random players. If you would rather assemble a fixed group, the official Hound13 Discord is the community's organising hub, and the pool is not small — concurrents held around 13–14 thousand in mid-August against a 23,030 launch peak.

Quick Entry. Patch 1.0.7 added a [Quick Entry] feature for multiplayer content. The patch note names it and does not explain it, and neither will we. The same patch added a lobby search range configuration, which strongly suggests matchmaking has some notion of range or region — what the ranges are is unpublished.

Two practical notes from the second-tier guides, consistent with each other: sessions run peer-to-peer with no dedicated servers, so the host's upload speed is everyone's session quality — give hosting to whoever has the best wired connection — and loot resolves per player, so nobody rolls, splits or races for drops. Farming raids with two friends is strictly better than farming alone.

What multiplayer patches have fixed, and what has not landed

Patch 1.0.7 fixed two problems that made co-op actively worse than single-player: a guest screen display rendering problem affecting the non-host player, and achievements failing to unlock in multiplayer — progress earned in co-op was not being credited. If you cleared raid content before 1.0.7 and the achievement did not fire, that was a bug, and it was fixed.

Still missing: [Retry]. Hound13 shipped [Quick Entry] in 1.0.7 and stated explicitly in the same note that [Retry] was delayed to the following week. As of this page's date we have not confirmed it landed. Failing a raid still means going back out through the loading screens.

Almost nobody has finished ten raids

The achievement A Towering Threat Brought Down asks you to complete raids 10 times. Its global unlock rate is 6.8% as of 12 August 2026 — see our achievements page for how that compares with the rest of the list.

That figure is doing more work than it looks like. Ten raid clears is not a demanding number for a group that has raids working. A 6.8% rate is consistent with most owners never running a raid at all — exactly the pattern you would expect from a game where multiplayer is optional, capped and gated behind specific content.

Only one raid is confirmed by name: the Ursula Raid, which we know exists because 1.0.7 fixed a shot-direction bug in it. How many raids exist in total is not published anywhere we can cite. Ursula also appears as a Very Hard difficulty target in the boss list.

Story co-op, consoles and cross-platform: the May statement

This is the most quoted thing Hound13 has said about the game's future, and it is worth reading exactly rather than in summary. On 11 May 2026, in the same thread:

"Story mode co-op is technically feasible, but realistically we won't be able to get it ready in time for launch. That said, if the game sells well enough to secure additional development time, we believe story mode co-op — along with console support and cross-platform multiplayer — could absolutely be delivered as post-launch updates."

Three things are bundled in that sentence: story co-op, console support, and cross-platform play. All three are conditional on sales, and none has a date.

What has happened since: on 11 August 2026, Hound13 announced 1 million wishlists and 300,000 copies sold. Whether that clears the bar in the May statement is not something Hound13 has said, and we are not going to do the arithmetic on their behalf. Separately, press reports from early August describe PlayStation and Nintendo versions as having started development — the FAQ covers that claim and its sourcing. The two statements are not the same strength, and only the May quote is verbatim.

Two questions the forum keeps asking that we cannot answer

Both are pinned threads with real engagement, and both are unresolved in our sources:

"Will it be playable offline?" — 31 replies. A Single-player category tag is not a statement about offline play, and we did not find a Hound13 answer.

"Will there be anticheat, and if so which one?" — 18 replies. No official answer located. Since co-op is limited to two or three players in instanced content, the stakes are lower than in a shared-world game — but that is reasoning, not information.

What this page does not cover

A raid roster — one raid is confirmed by name, and any fuller list is coming from somewhere we cannot check. How Quick Entry works in practice. Whether matchmaking is region-locked — the search range setting exists; what it does is unpublished, and we could not re-verify older claims of "no regional restrictions". Difficulty scaling with player count — no source documents a formula, so we print none. And whether consoles are actually happening — one verbatim statement makes them conditional on sales; later summaries say preparation is underway; we have verified only the first.

What is solid: the two content types, the 2 and 3 player caps, invite codes and the Steam lobby, P2P hosting, per-player loot, the 1.0.4 and 1.0.7 fixes, the outstanding [Retry] gap, and two paragraphs of Hound13's own text that no auto-generated wiki will have, because they are buried in a forum thread rather than on the store page.
