DragonSword Glossary: A

DragonSword: Awakening hands you four upgrade tracks, a dozen currencies and a combat vocabulary at once, and Hound13 explains almost none of it in the client. This page is every term already defined somewhere on this site, alphabetized, so you can look one up without re-reading the whole guide it came from. Where a number is disputed or unconfirmed, that is noted here the same as on the source page.

Each of the 19 heroes carries 2 Active Skills and 2 Signal Skills — twelve skills in play across a three-hero team. Official screenshot — DragonSword: Awakening, Hound13 Inc.

A–C

Active Skill. One of the two skill types every hero carries (alongside Signal Skills). Active Skills are what apply Status Ailments in the first place — see the combat guide for how they feed the Signal loop.

Adventure Quest. The numbered main-story quest line, running to at least #59. See patch notes for the fixes that reveal quest numbers.

Awakening. A hero's advanced upgrade track, gated behind Stigma Awakened Stones and described as changing playstyle rather than just raising stats. The Awakening System guide covers the six confirmed levels and the cost.

Basic Attack. Low-damage attacks that are not filler — they chip skill cooldowns and build Status Ailment stacks. Covered on the beginner guide and combat guide.

Basic Karma. The shared Karma type, attachable to any hero's weapon system, fed by duplicates farmed mainly from World Bosses. Contrast with Exclusive Karma below. See Gear, Runes and Karma.

Bond Quest. One of the content categories the beginner guide lists alongside Hero Quests and Area Quests. Not otherwise detailed on this site.

Break. A Status Ailment that works differently from the other eight — it is a super-armor break rather than a damage-over-time or crowd-control state, and Castella's kit is built around it. See the combat guide.

Breakthrough. A hero progression step that, per the Awakening System guide, most sources agree should be completed before investing in Awakening.

D–F

Dungeon Gate. A collectible category tracked by its own Steam achievement, A Mercenary! Open the Door!, at 23.6% (1 September 2026 reading). See achievements.

Eona's Legacy. A collectible category with its own achievement, The Wind Path That Unveils the Unknown, at 18.8%. See achievements.

Exchange. The menu where the eleven purchasable heroes are bought — with Fate's Invitation tickets only, never money. See Heroes: All 19 and the unlock planner.

Exclusive Karma. Character-locked Karma, described as the long-term best-in-slot target for its owner rather than something spread across a roster. Its crafting recipe is one of the most thinly sourced numbers on this site — see Gear, Runes and Karma.

Familiar. DragonSword's mount system — 29 total across 8 types; completing a type grants an account-wide movement bonus. Sources disagree on the DLC-exclusive total (12 vs. 15 of 29), and the DLC share varies sharply by type — from none in Insect to three of four in Direwolf. See the Familiars page.

Fate's Invitation. The single currency that buys a hero in the Exchange. Flat cost — every hero is one Invitation, no per-hero pricing. See the unlock planner.

Fragment of Memory. An item named in one player's Exclusive Karma recipe (100 needed, alongside Whirling Thought and gold) — see Gear, Runes and Karma for why that recipe is flagged low-confidence.

Fragment of Sacred Light. The material that buys Stigma Awakened Stones, 200 fragments per Stone, farmed mainly from Sudden Missions. See the Awakening System guide.

G–K

Goddess Statue of Organa. The out-of-combat healing point. Its usage limit was removed entirely in patch 1.0.7 — statues are now unlimited. See cooking and patch notes.

Hero Quest. A per-hero story questline; the Steam achievement list confirms exactly five heroes have one (Cerese, Kalien, Ornette, Dana, Theresia) per the achievements page — the other fourteen may simply lack an achievement for theirs.

Hunt Monster. A monster category distinct from World Bosses, tracked by its own achievement (29.5%). See the bosses page, which flags that no source publishes which of the 17 named bosses belong to which category.

Karma. See Basic Karma and Exclusive Karma above; the umbrella system covered in full on Gear, Runes and Karma.

M–R

Mercenary Corps. The rank ladder (Novice → Intermediate → Advanced → Veteran → Elite) that raises the level cap and, per the Familiars page, grants one Familiar per rank as a side effect of normal play.

Quick Entry. A multiplayer feature added in patch 1.0.7; the patch note names it without explaining what it does. See co-op and patch notes.

Raid. Three-player content sharing one weekly claim pool across both confirmed Raids and every difficulty — spending a claim on the wrong difficulty is the most-missed beginner mistake, per the World Boss and Raid Guide.

Regional Mission. Daily-resetting content on the same roughly-9:00-AM-server-time reset as World Bosses and Sudden Missions. See the World Boss and Raid Guide.

Retry. A still-missing quality-of-life feature — Hound13 shipped Quick Entry in patch 1.0.7 and explicitly stated Retry was delayed. Not confirmed shipped as of the newest patch this site has read. See co-op and patch notes.

Rift System. An announced but unshipped feature — "dimensional portals found throughout the world," per the roadmap's single secondary source.

Rune. Five types (Resolve, Guardian, Vitality, Concentration, Amplification) at five grades (Damaged through Perfect), socketed into 4-star-plus gear. See Gear, Runes and Karma.

S

Shard of Residual Sample. The crafted item that converts into one Exclusive Karma, per a single low-readership player guide. See Gear, Runes and Karma.

Signal Skill. The second skill type every hero carries. Signal Skills have no cooldown and instead arm when the right Status Ailment lands — firing one switches heroes. This is the core loop the combat guide is built around.

Status Ailment. The crowd-control/damage-over-time state a hero's Active Skills apply. Nine are individually confirmed on this site: Stun, Knockdown, Bleed, Burn, Shock, Freeze, Poison, Airborne and Break. See Heroes: All 19 for which hero applies which.

Stigma Awakened Stone. The item consumed to unlock one Awakening level, bought for 200 Fragments of Sacred Light. See the Awakening System guide.

Subduer / Conqueror. The two achievement verbs that split the 17 named bosses into two demands — "Subduer of ~" wants three defeats, "Conqueror of ~" wants one clear on a named difficulty (Very Hard or Nightmare). See the bosses page.

Sudden Mission. Surprise mini-boss fights and timed challenges encountered while exploring; the main source of Fragments of Sacred Light. See the Awakening System guide.

T–W

Tower of Trials. Endgame content unlocking in Chapter 3, reported (single-source) as three 30-floor towers, each leaning on a different control axis: stun, launching, knockdown. Feeds the Exclusive Karma crafting chain. See Gear, Runes and Karma.

Trial of Mist. A jumping-puzzle content type the beginner guide names as one of the places stamina management (and Slice-cooked food) matters most. See cooking.

Whirling Thought. An item named in the same single-source Exclusive Karma recipe as Fragment of Memory — see Gear, Runes and Karma for the sourcing caveat.

World Boss. Daily-resetting field content, a named category with its own economy since patch 1.0.4 raised its rewards, and per community sources the best routine source of Karma duplicates. See the World Boss and Raid Guide and bosses page.

What this page does not attempt

This glossary defines terms other pages here have already sourced — it adds no new facts or numbers. If a term is missing, it is likely one none of this site's sources have defined either; check the "what we could not confirm" section on the relevant topic page rather than assume an oversight. The FAQ and patch notes and roadmap pages are the next place to check, since new systems (Sky Island, the Rift System) tend to surface there first.
