Valheim Traders: Haldor, Hildir, Bog Witch

Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches may change the rules

Language: English中文

Key points

  • Haldor is in the Black Forest, Hildir in the Meadows and the Bog Witch in the Swamp, and they serve different needs.
  • Nobody can promise a direction from spawn — fold the search into exploration you were doing anyway, then plan a landing when the icon shows.
  • Inventory slots and carry weight are different problems; in 1.0 Haldor offers two expansions adding 16 slots in total.
  • After you find one, a reliable route back is worth more than hauling the whole stock home in one go.

Finding a trader early does not mean you have to spend everything. Work out whether your current problem is carry weight, inventory space, cooking materials or side content, then decide what to buy. Once you have found a trader, the most valuable next step is usually a reliable route back, not hauling the entire stock home in one go.

What each trader is for

Haldor lives in the Black Forest and sells practical adventuring goods; Hildir is found in the Meadows and deals in clothing and the related side content; the Bog Witch lives in the Swamp and provides materials tied to feasts, brewing and similar systems. Stock and progression unlocks are listed on the traders page.

Do not mix all three traders' goods into one shopping list and then dig through a single vendor's stock looking for them. Some items also have progression conditions, so someone else being able to buy something does not mean your world qualifies yet. On a return visit, check the current stock before you decide to keep saving.

How to widen the search when you cannot find one

Terrain and candidate locations differ between worlds, so nobody can promise that walking in one direction from spawn will find a trader. Fold the search into normal exploration: sail along new coastlines and toward the regions you were heading to anyway, log the routes you have covered, and plan a landing once you see the icon.

If you decide to use an external seed map, accept that it may spoil the terrain for you, and confirm the tool supports the current world generation version. Results from an older tool are not a guarantee for a 1.0 world. Above all, do not sail your only ship into a region you cannot handle just to verify a coordinate.

Inventory slots and carry weight are different

More slots does not mean a matching increase in the weight limit, and more carry weight does not mean you can hold more distinct item types. In 1.0, Haldor offers two inventory expansions, each adding a row, for 16 extra slots in total — as reported in this inventory size article. What you can actually buy depends on your own unlock state.

If you often have empty slots but cannot move, fix weight and transport first; if weight is fine but the variety of materials fills your bag, the expansion is the more direct answer. Buying against your real bottleneck beats buying off a recommendation list.

When you build a trader outpost, remember what it is for

Put the portal somewhere easy to reach and keep one clearly labelled transfer chest nearby. Store the valuables you plan to sell, the coins you are saving and your adventuring gear separately, so nobody grabs the wrong thing in a shared world. Visiting after a key boss kill is sensible; making the trip on every routine gathering run is not.

Judge side challenges by your current gear too. Seeing a quest marker does not mean you have to do it now; note the objective and organise the trip once your main-line supply is steady, and it will be much easier. A trader's value is in filling gaps in your systems, not in derailing your progression.
