Valheim First Day: Survive Night One
Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches can change the rules
Language: English中文
Key points
- Day one has one goal: somewhere to return to after dark, and repaired tools to head out with the next morning.
- Pick up wood and stone, craft the basic tools, then build a small hut that fits a Workbench and a bed.
- A bed is not done when you place it — meet the conditions, interact with it, then confirm on the map that the spawn point moved.
- Copper, furniture and a full gear set are not day-one jobs; food, a known route home and a spare ration are.

Give your new character one goal for day one: somewhere to go back to when it gets dark, and repaired tools to carry out again the next morning. Do not swim across an ocean, and do not climb the first mountain you see on the horizon. Bad starts are rarely lost fights. They are walking too far, eating too little, and having no reliable respawn point.
What to gather after you spawn
Pick up wood and stone off the ground nearby, craft the basic tools, then start felling trees with a plan. Tools and building options unlock as you come into contact with materials, so pick up anything new and read the prompt. The Hammer's base materials are wood and stone, and building a Workbench takes wood; the full crafting rules are on the Crafting page.

Watch which way trees fall, and never stand downhill from a trunk that is about to roll. Boars are good practice for attacking and backing off. Note where you saw deer, but do not chase one into unfamiliar ground. Keep your first gathering loop inside the area you can walk back from.
Make shelter work before you make it big
Find somewhere in the Meadows that is reasonably flat, near water but not in reach of the waves. Build a small hut that fits a Workbench and a bed, and leave room for a fire and its smoke. Repairing an existing ruin is fine, but check the gaps: walls standing does not mean the building is finished.

When the Workbench asks for shelter, add roof and surrounding structure rather than rebuilding the Workbench over and over. A bed is not done the moment you place it either: meet the conditions the game shows you, then actually interact with it to set your spawn. Once you leave, open the map and confirm the point moved, so you do not die and wake up back at the altar.
Aim for steady food, not fancy food
Collect the berries, mushrooms and meat you can reach, learn to cook, and try to get all three food slots doing something. Do not wander off while meat is on the fire; coming back to a burnt piece wastes the whole hunt. Food mainly raises your health and stamina ceilings rather than acting as a starvation timer, as covered in the official FAQ.
Split what you eat now from what you are taking out tomorrow. You do not need to carry every material you find. Put the loot you do not need in a chest and keep your pack free for exploring.
Do one last check before dark
Repair the tools you are using, make sure the fire is still lit, confirm the bed works, and clear the doorway. Put food somewhere you can find it, and note the resources and odd landmarks nearby. The only jobs still worth doing now are short gathering trips; anything clearly away from home waits until tomorrow.
By the end of day one you do not need copper, nice furniture or a full gear set. A house that works, a route home you know, and a spare ration is a fine start. Practise shield and bow next, collect deer trophies, and get ready for Eikthyr.

Recipes are on the Crafting and Building pages. This table does not include materials for roofs, walls or a bed, so do not treat ten wood as the budget for a whole house.
