Valheim Plains: Fulings, Barley and Flax

Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches may change the rules

Language: English中文

Key points

  • Scout from the edges first: note enemy numbers, escape routes and resource spots before you decide what to fight.
  • Deathsquitos and Fulings strip an unprepared player fast — handle whatever has already closed in, then move on.
  • Clear camps in sections along a direction you can fall back to, never straight through the middle.
  • Barley and flax both need Plains conditions: barley feeds food processing, flax goes into equipment materials.

The Plains look open, which does not make them a good place to sprint. On your first visit, scout from the edges, note enemy numbers, escape routes and resource spots, and only then decide what to fight. The real goal is a steady supply of materials and a working production chain, not clearing the biggest camp in sight.

Learn to handle small threats one at a time

Deathsquitos and Fulings strip an unprepared player's status fast; the biome overview is on the creatures index. Do not let them all merge into one encounter. Keep your view clear, deal with whatever has already closed in, and only then think about moving on.

Early on, avoid chasing an enemy toward a camp you have not scouted. The one target you can see may be the edge of a much larger group. When something is clearly stronger than you, change your route rather than confirming the gap with a death.

Clear camps in sections, never through the middle

Look at how the enemies are spread out, pick a direction you can fall back to, then engage step by step. When pressure comes from several directions, stop looting and pull back to ground you have already cleared. The crops and chests in a camp can wait until the fighting is done — inventory management does not belong in close combat.

Make the goal of your first camp raid "bring home the starting materials for planting and processing". Once you have them, go home and close the loop; you do not need the whole biome cleared before you start producing.

Barley and flax need their own field

Barley and flax both require Plains conditions to grow. Barley feeds food processing and flax goes into equipment materials — see Barley and Flax. Hold back part of the first harvest to expand the field, so you are not left with nothing to plant after processing it all.

Making the Plains farm a separate outpost you can travel to is enough; you do not have to move house immediately. Check the biome name before you plant, and be especially careful near borders — ground that looks identical can be on the wrong side of the growing conditions.

The artisan table is only the start of the chain

Build the artisan table once you have the dragon tear, then add the equipment each finished product needs — see Artisan table. Black metal, crops and later processing are not the same input line, so write down "what this station takes and who it feeds" before you build; it saves a lot of hauling.

Aim the first round of upgrades at your main weapon, your protection and your everyday meals. If your current gear already handles ordinary enemies, put more effort into a steady food supply and outpost routes than into crafting gear that does the same job twice.

When to start collecting summon totems

Save Fuling totems as you find them in normal exploration, and look for the Yagluth altar at the same time. Before summoning you also need fire resistance and healing supplies. The Plains are finished not when your farm is large, but when you can organise a boss fight without draining your reserves and still have enough left for a second attempt.

Barley and flax both require Plains conditions, so this field does not move home with you.
