Valheim Mountains: Cold, Silver and Eggs
Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches may change the rules
Language: English中文
Key points
- The first barrier is the cold, not the silver — sort frost resistance, a bow and a camp at the foot of the mountain first.
- Plan the route for coming down loaded, not just for going up, and keep a reserve of frost resistance at the base.
- The Wishbone narrows down buried silver, but transport is still your problem: a normal portal is not an exit for silver.
- Dragon eggs weigh 200 each and cannot go through normal portals; summoning Moder takes three.

The first barrier in the Mountains is the cold, not the silver. Running up a slope without protection can turn the trip home into a body recovery even if nothing attacks you. Sort out frost resistance, a bow and a camp at the foot of the mountain first, then start exploring with the Wishbone and a suitable pickaxe.
Check your environmental protection before you climb
A first trip usually relies on frost resistance consumables; after that you can pick equipment that provides the matching resistance according to its description. The environment, wolves, drakes and other threats are covered on the status effects page and the creatures page. Do not assume a piece of gear protects you because its name sounds warm; the item description and your status icons are more reliable.
Keep a reserve of frost resistance and food at the base of the mountain. If your main gear is stuck up there, the second trip still has to solve the same environmental problem. Do not carry every frost resistance item you own in one go.
Plan the route for coming down, not just going up
On the way up, mark gentle stretches and places that could become staging points, instead of relying on jumping off cliffs. Once you are loaded, a route that felt easy may not be. The first time you find a resource you can just log the position and come back for it on a dedicated trip.

When stamina runs low, stop somewhere you can see around you. Rushing the last stretch of slope and meeting an enemy at the top is a very common way to lose a Mountain run. Recovering before you approach unknown ground costs very little time.
The Wishbone locates; transport is still your problem
With the Wishbone equipped you can narrow down buried silver step by step from its feedback — see Wishbone. Do not dig the whole hillside into a pit the moment it reacts; work out the position first, then plan a mine you can climb out of.
Once you find silver, think about how one batch gets home safely. Temporary chests, a mountain path you know and a boat waiting for you should form one complete route. Under the standard portal rules, a normal portal is not an exit for silver.
Handle drakes and ground enemies separately
Bring something that can deal with airborne targets instead of only a melee weapon. In a fight, try not to be on a steep slope, aiming upward, with a wolf on you at the same time. Bring the fight to ground you can move on, and pull back and re-engage from a better spot when you need to.

Finding a special cave does not mean you have to enter it now. Cave exploration and silver hauling can be two separate trips — do not walk into a dungeon whose layout you do not know while loaded with ore.
Mark dragon eggs, confirm the altar, then move them
Dragon eggs are heavy, at 200 weight each, and cannot be moved through normal portals; summoning Moder takes three of them — see Dragon egg. Find the altar and the nests near it first, then move the eggs in stages; that is usually more sensible than carrying them all back to your main base.
Once you can get silver reliably, keep your food topped up and travel the mountain routes comfortably, start preparing for Moder. Progress here is not about moving faster, it is about every climb coming home with a clear result.
Four mountain problems and what each one needs
| Problem | What it needs | What it does not solve |
|---|---|---|
| Cold | Frost resistance consumables first, matching equipment later | A gear name that sounds warm is not a resistance check |
| Finding silver | The Wishbone, used to narrow the position down step by step | It does not move the ore for you |
| Getting silver home | A route, staging chests and a boat | A normal portal is not an exit for silver |
| Drakes and wolves together | Something that can deal with airborne targets, on ground you can move on | A melee weapon alone, on a steep slope, aiming upward |
Dragon eggs are a fifth job: 200 weight each, no normal portal, and three are needed to summon Moder.
