Valheim Rested Buff: Comfort and Fires

Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches can change the rules

Language: English中文

Key points

  • Resting is the process that earns the buff; Rested is what you carry out of camp — they are not the same thing.
  • Stand where you intend to rest and watch the status icon appear before you set off; do not rearrange furniture first.
  • Comfort decides how long the buff lasts; Rested itself improves recovery — so upgrading a rest area buys range, not free stamina.
  • Treat the remaining Rested time as a prompt to reassess whether to push deeper, not as a failure timer.

If you can only do one more thing before heading out, top up Rested. It is not decorative; it directly affects how well you recover while you keep going. Resting is the process of earning the buff. Rested is what you carry out of camp. Do not treat them as the same thing.

Getting the buff reliably

Stand in a spot that meets the resting conditions, wait for the status icon to actually appear, and only then set off. A fire, shelter and sitting by the fire all feed into the check, and nearby threats or your own status can interrupt it. The conditions are on the Resting page.

The simplest test is not shuffling furniture around, but standing where you intend to rest and watching the status change. If it will not appear, first confirm the fire is burning, your character is not taking continuous damage and no enemies are close, then look at the room's structure. Changing one thing at a time makes the cause much easier to find.

Comfort is about how long you keep it

Comfort affects how long the resting buff lasts, while Rested improves your recovery — see Rested. Upgrading a rest area is therefore about fewer supply gaps on long trips, not about ignoring stamina management.

Keep your usual resting spot on the same path as the bed, the food and the portal. After adding furniture, come back to the same spot and check the numbers in the interface. Do not assume every item in the room stacks forever, and do not block your own walkways chasing one figure.

Why long trips need rest stops

On the same crypt run, if most of the buff burns away on the road, you will be short on staying power when the fighting starts. Scout the route and set up a way back first, refresh at home, then return to clear it properly. For voyages where you cannot pop home, departure time and landing points along the way are part of the plan too.

Treat the remaining Rested time as a prompt: not "you fail when it expires", but "reassess whether to push deeper". When a nearly full pack, worn gear and an expiring buff all line up, that is usually your window to head back.

Common misreadings

Having a fire does not mean you can rest anywhere at any time. Having sat down does not mean the process completed. A bigger house does not guarantee higher comfort. Check the status before you check the architecture, and you will avoid a lot of pointless remodelling.

In a group, do not just ask whether everyone is on the ship. Have each person confirm food, tool durability and rest status; that saves more time than discovering mid-voyage that someone forgot arrows. Put it in the same departure routine as repairs and meals and it will actually cut down on mistakes.

Change one thing at a time. Having a fire does not mean you can rest anywhere, and having sat down does not mean the process completed.
