Valheim Mead Guide: Resist and Heal
Scope: Vanilla standard survival; world modifiers, mods and later patches can change the rules
Language: English中文
Key points
- Brewing is two steps: the Mead ketill makes mead bases, then a Fermenter turns them into drinkable mead.
- The Mead ketill needs a working fire source beneath it; the Fermenter needs shelter and real in-world time.
- Resistance lowers a specific environment or attack risk, healing puts back what you already lost — carrying one does not cover the other.
- Store bases and finished mead separately, and check the item description rather than the icon before you leave.

Poison resistance before the Swamp, frost resistance before your first climb into the Mountains, healing supplies before a long fight. Mead is not the insurance you go looking for after something goes wrong; it is part of the plan for leaving the house. Decide which effect this trip needs, then start production. Do not wait until your group is standing on the ship to discover the storeroom only holds bases you cannot drink.
Brewing is two steps: base, then fermenting
The current chain uses a Mead ketill to make mead bases, which a Fermenter then turns into drinkable mead. The Mead ketill needs a working fire source beneath it, and it is crafted from 4 Tin, 6 Copper and 2 Leather scraps. See Mead ketill. Older guides put every base in the regular cooking pot, so watch for version differences when you read them.

Store bases and finished mead separately. The names look alike but they do nothing alike, and carrying a base into the Swamp is not the same as carrying poison resistance. Before you leave, open the item description and check it is actually usable rather than trusting the icon.
Fermenting does not finish the moment you load it
The Fermenter needs shelter, and processing takes in-world time; closing the world does not keep production ticking. The process is covered in this brewing and fermenting guide.
Starting a brew before a routine gathering run makes more sense than kicking one off right as you leave. In a shared production area, label chests by purpose — "Swamp expedition, finished" — so nobody quietly walks off with the whole stock while everyone else assumes it is still there.
Resistance and healing are not the same thing
Resistance lowers the risk from a specific environment or attack. Healing puts back what you have already lost. Poison resistance does not let you ignore physical damage, and healing does not replace the resistance you should have brought. Drink the resistance you need before you enter, and check the icon duration; that is far more reliable than digging through your pack after the damage starts.

Healing items also have a cooldown between uses. "I brought lots of bottles" does not mean "I can spam back to full." Keep them in a slot you know, and learn the inputs somewhere safe so you do not grab the wrong item in a panic.
Pack for the trip, not for the pack size
A short gathering run, a first exploration and a boss fight all need different amounts. For a first exploration, budget extra for detours and corpse runs, and leave a rescue stash at base. If every resistance potion you own is sitting in the pack you just died with, the second trip gets harder.
If a base recipe will not appear, check material discovery and your station instead of blindly upgrading the regular pot from an old recipe. If fermenting stalls, read the prompt, check shelter and check what you put in before you start blaming mods. Once the whole chain has run cleanly once, lock that restocking routine in; changing biome later only changes which variety you brew.
