Talents are free to respec at any time outside the dungeon — at the mirror, or with P. That single fact should change how you approach them: there is no wrong permanent choice, only a wrong choice for the run you are about to start.
You get 25 points from Destiny Inscription and 20 more from Hard Mode tier rewards, for 45 total. That is enough for two level-20 capstones with change, or three trees at 10 plus one at 15.
To try a spread against those 45 points before you commit them, the talent planner adds up the totals across all seven trees and flags every breakpoint you land on.
Assignment unlocks with the Home Repairs quest. Willpower additionally requires Terrain Recovery, and Ingenuity has its own Destiny Inscription quest.
If you have bought Home Repair on the Destiny Inscription tree and still cannot see talents, the missing step is the errand itself: talk to Ken in Bunnyville, gather two Wood from the forest southwest of town, place them at the damaged section of your house, and use the Hammer he hands you. Walking into the repaired house opens the talent screen. It sounds skippable; it is not — and the associated DIY achievement sits at 91.7% unlocked, so if talents feel hidden, you are in the small minority that simply has not run the errand yet.

The seven trees
| Talent | Per point | Lv 5 | Lv 10 | Lv 20 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wrath | +1%→+20% Crit Chance | +20% Crit DMG | +10% DMG vs bosses & mini-bosses | +20% Ignore DEF |
| Swiftness | +1%→+20% ATK SPD | +8 Evasion, +1 Dash | +20% Dash Recovery, +8% Weapon DMG | +0.1s dash i-frames, +15% Weapon DMG |
| Survival | +2→+40 Max HP | +1 random stat when drinking any potion | +3 Inventory Slots | −12 Inventory Slots, unlocks Tablet Imprinting |
| Endure | +1→+20 DEF | start with a Foundation tablet | heal 1 HP/s below 25 HP | on death, revive at 60% HP |
| Wisdom | +1→+20 MP Regen | +5 MP Steal, +10 Max MP | unlocks [Unique] Stacking, +1 Dice on boss kill | +1 free reroll per reward, +20% EXP |
| Willpower | +1→+20 Luck | +2 starting Dice, Fountain capacity +1 | +15 Max HP, +25 Max MP | Fountain capacity +4 † |
| Ingenuity | +1→+20 Max HP / +0.5→+10 Evasion | +2 Inventory Slots | +1 extra Weapon/Item/Miracle offered | +7% All DMG per active Combo Type |
† Willpower's fountain numbers conflict in the official record. The 0.10.0 notes state that "the maximum capacity obtainable through the talent 'Willpower' has been reduced from 6 to 5" — yet the same post lists +1 at level 5 and +4 at level 20, which is +5 on a base of 4. The numbers in this table are the per-level lines as officially published; the stated maximum contradicts them, and nothing in the 1.0 patches has re-confirmed either figure. Fuller discussion on the artifacts page.
The three that decide runs
Endure 5 is the highest-value five points in the game for a new player. A Foundation tablet at the start of every run is a free +1 across an entire row of your bag — before you have found a single tablet. Every artifact you place in that row starts at level 1 instead of 0.
Ingenuity 20 is the highest ceiling. +7% universal damage per active combo type means six combos at their minimum thresholds is +42% on everything. It was buffed from 4% in patch 0.10.0, which tells you TEAM HORAY intended it to be a build-defining capstone rather than a rounding error. It is also the one that rewards the combo breadth strategy specifically.
Ingenuity 10 is quietly excellent on its own: one extra option offered on every weapon, item and Miracle choice. In a game where anvil rerolls cost dice, a permanent extra option is compounding value.
The two traps
Survival 20 costs you 12 inventory slots. Read that row again. The capstone unlocks Tablet Imprinting — the ability to consume a tablet and permanently engrave its effect into the bag, freeing the cell — but the price is twelve slots off a grid that only has thirty. It is a genuine endgame trade for players who have enough engraved buffs that they no longer need the space, and a disaster if taken early. A player who has run it describes engraving as "helpful for getting a first god run going" — note "first god run," not "first run."
Wisdom 10 is not "+2 combo." What it unlocks is [Unique] Stacking: duplicate artifacts get offered, and taking one adds a star to the copy you already hold rather than giving you a second copy. There is a combo interaction, but TEAM HORAY stated it was deliberately not applied to combo-changing artifacts such as Chalcedony Key and White Paper, and separately fixed a bug where the interface displayed a combo increase that was never applied. The "+2 combo" shorthand circulating on auto-generated wikis predates both of those.
Wisdom 10 also grants +1 die on boss kill, which is the part people forget and which is worth taking on its own.
Suggested spreads
First clear (25 points): Endure 5 → Survival 10 → Endure 10 → remaining into Wrath or Swiftness. You are buying survivability and inventory space, which is what actually gets you past chapter 3.
Damage build (45 points): Ingenuity 20 → Wrath 20 → 5 into Endure for the Foundation tablet. This assumes you can reliably assemble five or six combos, which needs a wide artifact pool from Destiny Inscription.
Engraving build (45 points): Survival 20 → Ingenuity 5 → Endure 5 → the rest into Willpower. This only makes sense once you know which tablets you want engraved; the 12-slot penalty has to be paid back by engraved buffs.
Reroll build: Wisdom 20 gives +1 free reroll per reward and +20% EXP. Combined with 6 starting dice from Destiny Inscription, this is the version of the game where you mostly get the offers you want.
Checked against 1.0.30
No talent value moved between 1.0.25 and 1.0.30. The Survival 20 capstone is safer to use than it was: 1.0.30 fixed Tablet Imprinting consuming the tablet without applying its effect when the activation conditions were not met. Preset handling also changed in 1.0.26 — slots went from 7 to 15 with a lock function, and Reset Slot became Delete Slot, which cannot be undone — worth knowing if you keep one preset per talent spread.
What is not settled
The talent that grants Tablet Imprinting has been called Survive, Endurance and Survival in different translation passes of the patch notes. We use Survival because that is what current community data uses, but check the in-game name before quoting it.
Per-point values in the table come from community data maintained against 1.0.25 rather than from a developer document — TEAM HORAY has never published a talent table. Two values are confirmed directly in patch notes: Ingenuity 20's scaling (4% → 7%) and the Wisdom 10 rework.
Two further discrepancies we are tracking rather than resolving. One third-party wiki lists an eighth tree, Greed (+3% Leaf drops per point), with its milestones marked unconfirmed even there — no second source corroborates it, so it stays out of our table. And an early-access-era guide referred to a talent called Patience that matches no current tree name; it is most likely an old name for Endure, but nobody has documented the rename, so treat any advice mentioning it as pre-1.0.
