Every other combo in Sephiria pays out in stats. Mystic pays out in grid arithmetic: it doubles what a cell is already worth. That makes it the one tag whose value depends on where your artifacts are sitting, and the one tag where two published descriptions of the same effect have never been reconciled.
If you only remember one thing from this page, make it the second half of the rule: the doubling applies to the net value of the cell, negatives included.

The rule, as this site states it
A tablet-covered cell has a level equal to the sum of every tablet effect reaching it. Mystic doubles that sum on up to three chosen cells, and a negative sum doubles too. The inventory grid page draws the practical conclusion: building a cell to +4 and doubling it is cheaper than reaching +8 by addition — you are buying a multiplier on work you already did rather than more tablets.
The reason to care about the negative half is that twelve tablets carry negative cells. The tablet families page names them: Exploitation, Unity, Gaze, Nurture, Competition, Advent, Wave, Trick, Disconnection, Last Stand, Flag and Defensive Move. Marking a doubled slot that one of those is pushing down turns a small mistake into twice the mistake.
The wording nobody has reconciled
TEAM HORAY's October 2025 combo revamp described Mystic as a support combo that doubles the level of a random artifact. By 1.0, community tooling models it as doubling the net value of up to three chosen cells. Those are not the same effect, and no public statement resolves them.
This site's position, repeated on the common misconceptions page, is to print both rather than pick. The count of three is the confident part, because two independent places state it; the selection method — random or chosen — is open. If you are planning a layout around the doubling, plan it so that a random pick would still land somewhere useful.
One more historical note that catches older guides: in its original form Mystic simply increased maximum MP. Any pre-revamp write-up describing it as an MP tag is not wrong about the version it was written for.
Planning it with the solver
The community SephiriaSolver exposes this directly. Its x2 Slot mark exists for the Mystic combo: you mark the cells you want doubled, and since tool version 2.0 up to three can be marked at once. The solver page walks through the mode and its limits, including the point that matters most here — the tool optimises numbers on cells and does not know that a doubled +5 is wasted on an artifact whose maximum level is 3. Check the target with the in-game preview before committing.
That check is not a formality. Maximum level varies per artifact — how high it typically goes is not confirmed, and Crystal of Harmony's fourteen levels above show it can go well past a handful — and some artifacts have no levels at all, so doubling a cell under one of those buys nothing.
The artifacts
The tier 50 evasion tank lists its Mystic items as honourable mentions rather than core picks, which is a fair reading of a tag you hold for its combo bonus.
| Artifact | What the guide credits it with |
|---|---|
| White Egg Shell | Clearing floors, and the final boss's tentacles |
| Crystal of Harmony with Impact Amplifier | Fourteen levels of true damage |
| Blue Ring | Universal damage |
| Cintamani Stone | Listed without a stated effect |
| Toxic Spore Pouch, Lunch Box | Trader-only — you will not find these in a node |
One more carries the tag quietly: the Multipurpose Belt, which grants +1 to all three elemental stats per artifact in the top row up to +6 each, also carries Mystic — so the artifact that reserves your top row is simultaneously moving you toward the doubling. The build routes page covers the layout that reserves it.
Worth flagging: the tier 50 guide's own summary of true damage is not glowing elsewhere on this site. The fire Blade author calls true damage useless in the current version, and this site treats that as a well-founded community opinion rather than a fact. Crystal of Harmony's fourteen levels of it inherit that uncertainty.
When Mystic is worth building toward
Two situations, both structural rather than about the items:
You are running a high-ceiling cell. If your layout already stacks a line tablet under a strong discrete tablet — the pattern that produces a single very tall cell — doubling is the cheapest way to push it further, and cheaper than finding another tablet.
You are going wide anyway. The Ingenuity capstone grants +7% to all damage per active combo type, so a Mystic pair you were holding for the x2 slot also pays 7% on everything. Mystic is unusually well suited to that strategy because its own payout does not care which other tags you run.
The case against is equally simple: three doubled cells on a bag of low-maximum artifacts is three wasted marks, and a bag that cannot reliably fill even one high cell should spend its slots elsewhere.
Not confirmed
Whether the doubled slots are chosen or random is the open question above. No source this site holds states the combo count at which Mystic activates, whether the three-slot limit is the game's or the tool's, or how the doubling interacts with an artifact that is already at its maximum level. The artifact effects in the table are the tier 50 author's descriptions, not measured values, and Cintamani Stone's effect is not described anywhere this site can cite.
