How to Play Escape Prison with a Toothpick: Dig, Hide, Escape
Scope: Official game description, badge and developer-product records read 5 November 2026 (UTC); two YouTube video descriptions
Key points
- Dig out of your cell with the Toothpick, then upgrade tools in the prison shop with cash.
- Officers inspect your cell; badges reward hiding the evidence and avoiding strikes.
- Badges mention a sewer section and a car you can be busted in before the getaway.
- Dirt fills your bag; flushing it and finding loot are separate jobs.

In Escape Prison with a Toothpick you dig out of your cell, upgrade your tools, hide the evidence from the cops and reach the getaway car. Those five steps come from the developer's description. Badge and shop records add the details: officers inspect your cell, mistakes cost strikes, dirt fills a bag, and loot you dig up turns into cash.
What is the goal of each run?
The official description lists five goals in this order: dig your way out, upgrade your tools, hide the evidence from the cops, reach the getaway car and beat your best escape time. According to a YouTube description by Tex HS (3 November 2026), the creator's only escape route was a hole dug under the rug in the cell. Two badges reward escaping under a time limit: Speedrunner asks for an escape in under 10 minutes; Spotless Record asks for one in under 20 minutes with no strikes.
What happens when an officer inspects your cell?
Inspections are the danger the badges mention most. Untouchable asks you to "Pass 12 inspections in a row without getting caught," and Close Call! rewards hiding the evidence "less than 0.1 seconds before the officer looks into your cell." Read together, the wording indicates that an officer looks into your cell during an inspection and that visible evidence gets you caught.
Strikes are what you want to avoid: Spotless Record asks for an escape "without getting a single strike." By a Thread asks you to "Get to 2 strikes, then survive 5 more inspections and escape," and the 9-Robux Revive product says "Get one more strike." The records we read do not state the strike limit, so we do not give a number.
| Situation | What the official records say | Source record |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection passed | Counts toward Untouchable (12 in a row) | Badge |
| Strikes | By a Thread: reach 2 strikes, then survive 5 more inspections and escape | Badge |
| Out of strikes | Revive gives "one more strike" | Developer product |
| Skip an inspection | Lock the Doors: "the next inspection is cancelled!" | Developer product |
| Hide your cell | VIP Cell: curtains "that hide your cell from the officer, for this game" | Developer product |
Where does the dirt go?
Digging produces dirt, and your bag holds it. The x2 Backpack and Infinite Bag products and the 3x Bag Size pass all describe holding more dirt. Royal Flush asks you to "Flush 250 bags of dirt in one game (each bag at least half full)," and Cell Mate "scoops up and flushes all your dirt for 60 seconds." Messy Cellmate rewards "60,000 dirt piled up in your cell at once." So dirt can pile up in the cell as well as in your bag.
How do you earn cash and upgrade?
You dig up loot as you go. Jackpot asks for "3 Legendary items in one game," Treasure Hoarder for "20,000 pieces of loot," and some badges raise "money for loot" or "double-sale chance." That wording indicates loot is sold for cash. Cash buys tools and upgrades in the prison shop; the Shop Upgrade products describe upgrades costing up to $60, $300, $1,500, $5,000 and beyond. Window Shopper shows an escape is possible "without spending a single dollar." The tools guide lists every tool named in the records.
Gem blocks are dug up too (Gem Magnet wants seven in one game). Gems are spent in the lobby, on class spins and lobby upgrades, as covered in the gems guide.
What stands between the tunnel and freedom?
Clean Getaway asks you to escape "without getting caught in the sewer or busted in the car." That names a sewer section and a car you can still be caught in. Three badges also grant "climb speed," which suggests climbing is part of a route, though no official text says where. In Chapter 2, Alcatraz badges mention a security room door and paddling "across the bay" (see the update history).
Is it better to escape alone or with others?
Escape Prison with a Toothpick has crew rewards. Squad Goals needs a game "where 6 players escape" and Full House a game "where all 8 players escape together." The Gang Leader class sells for more with every crewmate, up to +20%. The Start a Riot product opens every cell and makes "everyone" dig 2x faster for 60 seconds.
How long does an escape take?
There is no official average. The badge timers (under 10 and under 20 minutes) are challenge targets, not typical times. One official promotional image carries the caption DAY 670. According to a YouTube description by Gameology by Hira (26 October 2026), their duo tried "to escape before Day 10"; CakeholeKing's video (29 October 2026) asks whether the creator can escape "in 670 days." The official text does not explain how days are counted.
