Southern Mudding Nitrous and Customization: What Is Known

Nitrous came to Southern Mudding on 25 September 2026. The official notes call it "New Nitrous Customization for Pickup Trucks!" and give one instruction: "Add it in the customization garage." So it is a customization option, it is for pickup trucks, and you fit it at the garage. How you fire it and what it costs are not published.
This page separates what the developer has written from what still needs an in-game check. We would rather leave a gap than describe a key press we have not seen.
What exactly did the update notes say?
The game description carried these four lines under "🚨 September 25th Update" when we read it at 11:19 UTC on 2 October 2026, before that day's update:

At that check the game's Roblox title started with "[🚀Nitrous!🚀]", and the listing showed its last update at 17:20 UTC on 25 September.
How do you add nitrous to a truck in Southern Mudding?
Going only by the official line, the steps are:
- Spawn a pickup truck. The notes limit nitrous to "Pickup Trucks".
- Take it to the customization garage.
- Add nitrous there as a customization.
That is as far as the published text goes. We have not confirmed where the garage is on the map, which menu holds the option, whether it costs in-game money, or which control triggers the boost once it is fitted. The how-to-play guide lists the same open questions for the game's menus in general.
Can other vehicles use nitrous?
The notes name pickup trucks and nothing else. They do not say that UTVs, semi trucks or the cars from the packs are excluded, but they do not include them either. Until the developer says more, assume nitrous is a pickup-only option. Several of the Robux vehicles are pickup trucks by name, such as [Limited] Off-Road 6x6 Pickup Truck; whether every vehicle with "Pickup Truck" in its name qualifies is not stated. Which Southern Mudding passes are about customization?
Two, both at the lowest price in the store:

Each also has a gift product at the same 80 Robux: Portable Customization Gift and Rock Lights Customization Gift.
Portable Customization is the one that interacts with nitrous, at least on paper. If nitrous is an ordinary customization, a pass that lets you customize "from anywhere" would likely let you add it without driving to the garage. That is a reasonable reading, not a confirmed one.
Rock Lights Customization has an empty description. The name indicates it unlocks rock lights as a customization option, and the pass was created on 10 April 2026, the day an event listing titled "🔧Tires + Rock Lights!🔧" started; nothing more is published. No pass or developer product is named for nitrous or for LED Whip Lights, so on 2 October neither was sold as its own Robux item in the store data. The full pass list is in the game pass guide.
How much attention did the update get?
The Southern Mudding event listing titled "🚀Nitrous Update!🚀" was created on 11 September, two weeks before it started. At 11:23 UTC on 2 October 2026, 67,491 accounts had marked themselves as going and 10,758 as not going. The event started at 17:15 UTC on Friday 25 September and was set to end at 17:00 UTC on 2 October, when the next weekly update was scheduled.
For scale, the group behind the game had 649,071 members at 11:20 UTC that day. The update schedule page explains the weekly rhythm and lists all 43 event titles.
Nitrous is not the first customization update. Three earlier event listings tie to customization in official text:

Two later titles, "Engine Swaps!🛠️" (26 June 2026) and "License Plates+New ATVs" (10 July 2026), sound like tuning features too, but no official text calls them customization.
Why does customization matter in Southern Mudding?
The developer puts it at the centre of the game. The description lists "customize your vehicles" among four reasons to play, promises "customization that matters", and names "dialing in your perfect truck setup" next to towing and mud runs. It also says updates should "add real gameplay — not just surface changes".
Nitrous, by its name, is a performance option rather than a visual one, which fits that statement. Beyond that we would be guessing: no official text says how strong the boost is or how it behaves in deep mud.
What should you check in game?
If you play before we do, these are the facts to record, ideally with a screenshot:
- the control that triggers nitrous on keyboard, controller and touch;
- whether fitting it costs in-game money, and how much;
- whether a tank empties and how it refills;
- where LED Whip Lights and rock lights sit in the customization menu;
- whether Portable Customization lets you add nitrous away from the garage.

Is a customization pass worth 80 Robux?
Our view, from the descriptions alone: Portable Customization is the more useful of the two for anyone who tunes often, because it saves trips to the garage. Rock Lights Customization is likely cosmetic, going by its name. The notes mention no purchase for nitrous itself.
