Can your PC run it? Beast of Reincarnation is out now — it launched August 4, 2026 on PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store) alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here's what we can actually confirm about the PC build of Game Freak's Unreal Engine 5 action RPG now that it has shipped, plus how it runs in practice.

The game is out. Beast of Reincarnation released on August 4, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Nintendo Switch version. This page focuses on what is actually confirmed about the PC build now that it has shipped: the hard requirements Game Freak locks in — a mandatory SSD, 16 GB of RAM, DLSS/FSR upscaling, and a roughly 45 GB install — how the game performs at launch, and where the exact CPU and GPU tiers still need to be pinned down.

The four confirmed PC hard requirements

Four things about the PC version are settled and worth building around before anything else. Whatever your exact CPU or GPU turns out to be, these do not move:

  • SSD is mandatory. A solid-state drive is required, not merely recommended. This is a streaming-heavy Unreal Engine 5 title, so a mechanical hard drive causes hitching and long loads rather than just slower installs.
  • 16 GB of RAM. The floor is 16 GB and it does not climb for the higher tier — you do not need a 32 GB kit for this one.
  • DLSS or FSR upscaling. The performance targets assume an upscaler is switched on: DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards, FSR on other hardware. Reconstruction is doing real work here; it is not optional polish.
  • Around 45 GB install. The download lands at roughly 45 GB — moderate by modern standards and small enough to keep on a primary drive.

The official specs, exactly as listed on the Steam store page (read August 31, 2026):

The pattern to take away: RAM and storage are flat across both tiers, the SSD and an active upscaler are non-negotiable, and even the recommended tier only promises Medium 1080p at 60fps with an upscaler on Performance — this is a heavier UE5 renderer than the eight-year-old minimum GPU suggests. Since launch, patch 1.0.8 added DLSS 4/4.5 and FSR 4 support and 1.0.9 added frame generation, which materially helps RTX 40/50 and RX 7000+ owners (see the patch notes). Because Beast of Reincarnation is built around parries and tight deflect timing, a locked, consistent frame rate matters more here than raw resolution — if you have to choose, choose the steady frame rate.

What the upscaling requirement means

The single most important thing to understand about the PC build is that DLSS and FSR are baked into the expected experience rather than bolted on. On NVIDIA RTX cards the game routes you to DLSS; on older GeForce, Radeon and other hardware it uses FSR. In Performance mode at a 1080p output, an upscaler renders each frame internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs it, which is how a modest GPU keeps up with a 2026 UE5 renderer. If you disable upscaling entirely and demand native resolution, budget a stronger GPU than whatever the minimum tier ends up listing.

Storage and install size

The install comes in around 45 GB — small enough to keep on a primary drive. The SSD requirement does not distinguish between SATA and NVMe, and for most UE5 games a decent SATA SSD is enough to avoid streaming stutter; NVMe mainly shortens initial loads. Day-one patch details and preload timing are tracked on our page.

How it actually runs at launch

This is the part that only became clear once the game was in players' hands. Performance is the most common complaint across launch coverage, and it is worth knowing before you buy. On PS5 the Performance mode targets 60fps, but it does not hold that everywhere — boss fights in particular drop frames, and some low-resolution textures show up in the world. The console picture is the clearest read on how the engine behaves under load, and it sets expectations for mid-range PCs too: a smooth average with dips in the busiest encounters.

Reviewers have singled out two things repeatedly — the boss-fight camera, which can struggle in tight spaces against large enemies, and PC and Steam Deck performance specifically. The game reviewed well overall, sitting at a "Strong" 76 on OpenCritic with the majority of critics recommending it, but the technical side — especially framerate stability in combat — is where the criticism clusters. None of this is a reason to skip the game; it is a reason to prioritise a stable frame rate in your settings and to keep an upscaler on.

Steam Deck and handhelds at launch

Beast of Reincarnation did not carry a Steam Deck Verified rating at launch, and Game Freak has not published handheld guidance. Playable is not the same as Verified: the 16 GB RAM floor sits exactly at the Deck's total unified memory, which forces aggressive settings cuts, and the in-combat performance issues that show up elsewhere are harder to absorb on low-power hardware. The practical recommendation for Deck and similar handhelds is to lock the frame rate to 40fps and run Low settings with FSR on — that trades peak sharpness for the consistency this combat system needs. The 45 GB install fits comfortably on a 256 GB Deck or a microSD card. We will revisit this if a Verified rating lands post-launch.

Price, editions, and Game Pass

On PC the game is $59.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. The $10 gap is entirely cosmetics, items and currency — it does not touch the core game. The Deluxe extras are black and brown coat skins for Koo, the 'Oni's Hat' cosmetic for Emma, the sword 'Big Dipper', 100,000 Amber (the in-game currency), and a set of vegetable seeds for the farming system. Beast of Reincarnation is single-player only — there is no co-op or multiplayer — so nothing in either edition affects anyone but you. Full breakdown on our editions page.

You may not need to buy the PC version outright. Beast of Reincarnation is on Game Pass from day one — both PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass — and the PC release is available through the Microsoft Store as well as Steam. If you already subscribe, try it there first and buy on Steam only if you want it in that library long-term. PS5 owners have no subscription route; it is a standard purchase there.

FAQ

Is Beast of Reincarnation out on PC?

Yes. It launched on August 4, 2026 on PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Nintendo Switch version.

Do I need an SSD?

Yes — an SSD is required, not merely recommended. A SATA SSD is fine; NVMe mainly speeds up initial loads.

Is 16 GB of RAM enough?

Yes. The floor is 16 GB and it does not rise for the higher tier, so a memory upgrade is not required for this game.

Does it support DLSS and FSR?

Yes, and the performance targets assume one is on — DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards, FSR on other hardware.

Minimum: i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 3600 with a GTX 1070 (8 GB) / RX 580 (8 GB) for Low 1080p at 40fps upscaled. Recommended: i7-12700K / Ryzen 7 5800X with an RTX 3060 (12 GB) / RX 6700 XT (12 GB) for Medium 1080p at 60fps upscaled. Both tiers: 16 GB RAM, DX12, 45 GB on an SSD.

Is it on PC Game Pass?

Yes, day one, via both PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass. The PC version is on the Microsoft Store and Steam.

How does it run on Steam Deck?

It did not have a Verified rating at launch. The practical setup is a 40fps cap on Low settings with FSR on. See our performance page for updates.
